Big Changes Coming To CDT 2027

The ADA Code Maintenance Committee has approved 67 changes for the CDT 2027 code set, including 28 additions, 33 revisions, and six editorial updates. Effective January 1, 2027, the upcoming modifications feature critical updates such as new codes for repairing or removing fixed splints, clinical changes to direct composite crown documentation, and a dedicated suite of codes for orofacial pain management. Dentists and practice administrators are encouraged to review these changes ahead of their fall release to ensure seamless billing and documentation transitions.

ADA Urges FTC Healthcare Task Force To Scrutinize Dental Insurance Markets, Improve Transparency

The American Dental Association is formally urging the Federal Trade Commission's newly formed Healthcare Task Force to investigate anti-competitive practices and market concentration within dental insurance networks. Highlighting that the top three insurers control up to 90% of the market in several states, the ADA raised concerns over 'take-it-or-leave-it' provider contracts, opaque network leasing arrangements, and narrow patient networks. The association is calling for greater transparency, stronger independent negotiation terms, and closer oversight of Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits to protect both dental practices and patient care.
