Oral Hygiene Has Been Linked to Multiple Health Conditions, Including Dementia and Diabetes

A 21-year study by the University of South Carolina has found that individuals with both gum disease and cavities have a significantly higher risk of stroke compared to those with good oral health. The research, involving nearly 6,000 adults, showed that those with both conditions had an 86% increased risk of stroke, while those with only gum disease had a 44% increased risk. The study suggests that inflammation and bacteria from poor oral health may contribute to cardiovascular issues, highlighting the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene as part of stroke prevention efforts. Regular dental checkups were also associated with a reduced risk of these oral health issues.

Studies Argue That Oral Immunotherapy Can Help Kids Shake Food Allergies

Recent studies suggest that oral immunotherapy can help children overcome food allergies by gradually desensitizing them to allergens. In one study, 64% of children were able to consume allergens like peanuts and milk without reactions after treatment, significantly improving their quality of life. Another study successfully treated two infants with peanut allergies, allowing them to eat peanuts without adverse effects. These findings highlight the potential of oral immunotherapy as a promising approach for managing food allergies in children.
