The American Dental Association (ADA) has updated its guidelines, emphasizing the importance of clinical oral exams for early detection of oral cancer. The guidelines advise against using cytology adjuncts for biopsy decisions due to potential false positives, recommending them only when biopsies are not feasible. The ADA's living guidelines, updated with new evidence, aim to improve patient outcomes by providing timely, evidence-informed recommendations for oral health care providers.

Launches Disaster Relief Fund

The ADA Foundation has introduced a disaster relief fund to support state dental associations and their foundations in aiding dentists affected by natural disasters. Eligible states can receive grants up to $25,000, based on the disaster's severity and the number of impacted dentists. These grants are intended to address urgent personal needs, such as food and shelter, rather than dental practice-related expenses. States must apply within 60 days of a disaster declaration and report on fund usage.
