The mice in the simulation experienced significantly more tissue damage and bone loss than the other experiment group. These findings indicate that microgravity environments directly impact gum disease severity and oral health. As space missions grow longer and astronauts spend extended periods in zero gravity, the risk of oral health complications could increase substantially. This research highlights the importance of incorporating dental evaluations into safety and health protocols for astronauts.
