These drugs may give you bad breath

A recent review published in the International Dental Journal highlights that various common medications, including antifungals, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and ranitidine, may contribute to halitosis. Analyzing literature from 2015 to 2024, researchers from the University of Toronto identified both intra-oral and extra-oral causes, noting that drugs like cysteamine and certain tumor inhibitors can lead to bad breath through gastrointestinal side effects or the exhalation of odorous metabolites. The authors emphasize that understanding these pharmaceutical links is crucial for clinicians to accurately diagnose and effectively manage the underlying causes of a patient's bad breath.
