President Signs Funding Package Securing Oral Health Investments

President Donald Trump signed a $1.2 trillion bipartisan spending bill that secures significant investments in oral health. The funding package includes increases for various oral health programs, such as a $1 million boost for Health Resources and Services Administration oral health workforce programs and a $5 million increase for the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Additionally, over $50 million is allocated for community projects to expand dental infrastructure and services across more than 15 states, while extending funding for health workforce and access programs.

EPA Initiates Accelerated Review of Fluoride In Drinking Water

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has initiated an accelerated review of fluoride in drinking water under the Safe Drinking Water Act, following a 2024 federal court ruling. This review aims to evaluate potential health effects, particularly on children's IQ, and could influence future regulatory decisions. The American Dental Association (ADA) supports the benefits of fluoridated water for dental health and urges the EPA to use objective, evidence-based research in its assessment. The review will include public comments and external peer review, with the ADA actively participating in the process.
