How Stem Cells May Be the Key to Regenerative Dentistry Researchers at UPenn have discovered that molecular secretions from gingival stem cells may hold the key to repairing oral tissue injuries. These stem cell secretions possess both regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties that significantly accelerate the healing process. In their experiments with rodents, scientists tested whether the cells could repair damaged tissue by treating tongue injuries. Results showed the tongue not only healed, but it also showed little to no scarring. Building on these findings, the researchers are now planning to work towards developing a gel-based formula from the stem cell secretions that could be widely used to treat oral tissue injuries. Read more Probiotics: Good For Your Gut and Oral Health A recent study found that probiotics in combination with an anti-inflammatory diet may significantly improve gum disease outcomes in women. Participants were divided into two groups: one followed a curated anti-inflammatory diet and took probiotics during their periodontal treatment, while the other did not. The probiotics balanced oral and gut microbiota while the diet reduced inflammation. The results showed the treatment group had significantly better improvements to their periodontal condition compared to those who received standard care alone. Understanding how diet and other changes like this can affect patients with gum disease in a positive way could redefine treatment plans in the future.
