First Bio-Engineered Human Tooth

Researchers at King’s College London have created the first lab-grown human tooth using a special material which creates an environment, called a matrix, for cells to send signals to each other. By sending these signals gradually over time, similar to how it occurs naturally, the researchers were able to facilitate intercellular communication to start the tooth formation process. The next phase aims to translate this technique into clinical applications for patients with tooth loss and other dental complications. This advancement in bioengineering could mark the beginning of a shift away from traditional fillings and dentures toward more natural methods of restorative dentistry.
